About Us: Golden Rooms — Rooms, Play and Company

Golden Rooms was born of a love for two things that pair well: a carefully fitted-out room and a game that demands attention. Our rooms in Melbourne, at 347 Collins Street, answer the need for a place that combines craft in the fit-out with a culture of exclusive entertainment.

Chapter 01

How the concept came about

The idea for Golden Rooms came during visits to classic gaming rooms in various European cities, where we noticed a lack of places that combine calm in the room with space to meet. We decided to bring that standard to Australia, choosing a heritage building in the centre of Melbourne.

From the first sketch, our goal was a house that supports both the game and the conversation. The Collins Street space was never meant to be a run-of-the-mill gaming hall, nor a closed card club — the two had to live side by side as equals.

Choosing the heart of Melbourne was deliberate: being close to the station and the CBD makes a visit easy to pair with a night out, while the intimate interior leaves room for an unhurried game.

Our view of the room

At Golden Rooms we believe there are no bad players — only badly designed rooms that get in the way of concentration. So our approach starts with the space: distance between tables, light at the right height and materials that soften sound.

We want every guest to leave feeling they were able to play in peace. An evening with us is no conveyor belt — it's a program we measure, adjust and tune to the people in the room.

Poker as a game of skill

The Poker Lounge is our answer to the prejudices about card games — we present poker as a discipline that demands maths, people-reading and strategic planning.

At Golden Rooms we guard the culture of the game and create a safe, professional environment for guests keen to test their edge against worthy opponents. In our lounge, etiquette counts as much as the result — and that's exactly what builds trust within the club.

The people behind Golden Rooms

Our team is made up of hosts, dealers and floor managers with thousands of evenings behind them. Every Golden Rooms staff member on Collins Street trains regularly in game rules, hospitality and recognising risky gambling behaviour.

It's their knowledge and commitment that lets us run even complex evenings — a private tournament, a corporate event — smoothly. Our dealers work with equipment they check themselves, not whatever happens to be on hand.

In the lounge, experienced dealers oversee the flow of the game; to them, table culture and knowledge of the rules matter as much as dealing technique. They set the tone in which both beginners and seasoned players feel at home.

Craft as the foundation

We invest in tables, felt and chips from the best makers, because we know nothing at this level can be left to chance. Our rooms are set up so every table offers the same quality, whether you sit up front or at the back.

Gaming tables

Tables with an even surface and tautly stretched felt, regularly checked and refinished. Every evening starts with a technical round of all the tables.

Chips and cards

Ceramic chips with a recognisable weight and plastic cards that keep their feel. Both are replaced periodically to keep the quality constant.

Fit-out

Each room is fitted out individually: seat height, walking space, lighting and where the service counter sits. What we adjust is driven by the experience of our regulars.

That craft lets us run evenings that work from start to finish — which is why guests keep coming back. We don't sell games; we host evenings worth having.

Building a local community

Golden Rooms is more than a room — it's a community of people with similar values who spend their time on good company and quality play. We host club nights, shared dinners and private tournaments that turn into lasting connections.

We're proud that 347 Collins Street has become a place that brings together people from all walks of life. Our guests are business owners, teachers, doctors and students — people who see the game as time outside the daily rhythm.

Chapter 07

Commitment to the city of Melbourne

We support local initiatives and present card games for points as a pastime open to everyone. We work with cultural institutions and associations around the city and love sharing our knowledge of how to run a gaming night.

At Golden Rooms we believe explanation and guidance are the key to a healthy gaming culture, so we're happy to help organisers of amateur tournaments around the region.

Chapter 08

Responsibility and ethics

We run our business transparently and with integrity, fully complying with the applicable rules — especially around card play and age checks. We promote responsible gaming and keep our lounge a safe place where entertainment never clashes with fair play.

Our reputation in Melbourne rests on trust, built through reliability, craft and care for our guests. Every new member is briefed on Poker Lounge etiquette, and the gaming room runs to clear, written standards.

Plans for the future

Golden Rooms keeps evolving: we're planning new game formats and expanding the program of club evenings in the lounge step by step. We intend to stay the region's benchmark for well-run gaming nights, so we invest in equipment and in training our team.

Our goal is to be the first choice for anyone seeking quality, whatever their experience or level. We're working on more intro nights, meet-ups with experienced players and new tournament formats in the Poker Lounge.
